CALCIUM CARBONATE DMC

Product detail
Description
CALCIUM CARBONATE DMC® (f. m. c) is pure calcium carbonate, CaCO3. It is an acid soluble weighting or bridging agent for use in drilling or workover and completion fluids.
Application
Calcium Carbonate DMC® (f. m. c) can be manufactured in a variety of kinds to provide bridging or weighting particles for completion or workover fluids. It can be used as non-damaging loss circulation or bridging material in oil muds to prevent differential sticking or mud losses when drilling into the reservoir. The material is acid soluble so that good clean up is obtained by acidisation (fully soluble in 15% HCl solution). Calcium Carbonate DMC® (f. m. c) can also be used to increase the density of water-based and oil-based muds.
Physical and Chemical Properties
Appearance White powder
Specific Gravity, g/cm3 2.71
Bulk Density, kg/m3 900-1000 (56 – 62.4 lbs/ft3)
Solubility Soluble in acid water
Toxicity Non-toxic
Particle Size: Fine 44 - 74 µm
Medium 74 - 2000 µm
Coarse > 2000 µm
Recommended Treatment
For bridging purposes the Cacium Carbonate DMC® (f. m. c) should be added at 30 – 50 lbs/bbl (86 – 100 kg/m3) and with sufficient large particles to bridge the larger pore entrances to the formation.
Higher concentration may be used to increase the density of completion fluids if required.
Environmental and Safety Handling Recommendations
Utilize normal precautions for employee protection when handling chemical products. Use of appropriate respirator, gloves, goggles and apron is recommended for employee comfort and protection.
Calcium Carbonate DMC® (f. m. c) is non-toxic and is considered to be harmless in the marine ecosystem.
Packaging
Calcium Carbonate DMC® (f. m. c) is packaged in 25 kg bags.
