Description
SAFE CARB DMC ground marble is a high-purity, acid-soluble, calcium carbonate used as a bridging and weighting agent in drilling, drill-in and workover/ completion fluids. It is preferred over limestone because it is generally more pure with a higher hardness. Higher purity provides better acid solubility. SAFE CARB DMC additive is available in five standard grind sizes: SAFE CARB DMC 2, 10, 20, 40 and 250. It is also available in special grind sizes: SAFE CARB DMC 500, 1000 and 2000.
Application
SAFE CARB DMC additive is an acid-soluble calcium carbonate bridging and weighting agent for controlling fluid loss and density. It can be used in fluids ranging from conventional drilling fluids to drill-in fluids, such as FLOPRO*NT, FAZEPRO*, VERSAPRO* and DIPRO* system, to workover and completion fluids. It is also used with SEAL-N-PEEL* applications to seal the inside of sand-control completion assemblies. As bridging agent and fluid-loss additive, normal concentrations are in the 10 to 50 lb/bbl range (29 to 143 kg/m3). Use OPTIBRIDGE* to select the optimum blend of SAFE CARB DMC to reduce fluid-loss control and minimize fluid and solids invasion. The amount of SAFE CARB DMC required to increase the mud density can be calculated with the following formulas:

SAFE CARB DMC 250 to SAFE CARB DMC 2000 calcium carbonate grind sizes are generally used in lost circulation situations requiring larger particle sizes. They are often used circulation and SEAL-N-PEEL fluid loss pills with concentrations from 30 to 100 lb/bbl (86 to 285 kg/m3), to bridge highly permeable zones, fractured zones or completion assemblies.
SAFE CARB DMC agent can also be added on periodic basis for seepage control to limit losses (lost circulation and leak-off) to high-permeability formations. It is particularly effective when drilling with high differential pressures caused by an overbalanced condition or when drilling depleted zones. Treatments range from 2 to 10 sacks per hour when used as a perventative measure. For depleted zone drilling or induced fracture applications, SAFE CARB DMC marble is most effective when used in combination with G-SEAL* additive.

Recommended Treatment
- Acid-soluble, high-purity which minimizes formation damage.
- Effective bridging agent; use OPTIBRIDGE to design an optimum blend for specific applications.
- Numerical suffix provides a simple method of identifying the approximate D50 of the material.
- High-hardness, ground marble resists particle-size degradation.
- Essentially inert, minimum effect on fluid properties.
- Finer grades such as SAFE CARB DMC 2, 10 and 20 additives will pass through most fine-mesh shale shaker screens.

Packaging and Storage
SAFE CARB DMC 2, 10, 20, 40, 250, 1000 and 2000 additives are packaged in 50-lb (22.7 kg), 55-lb (25 kg) and 110-lb (50 kg) multi-wall, paper sacks.
Store in dry, well-ventilated area. Keep container closed. Store away from incompatibles. Follow safe warehousing, practices regarding palletizing, banding, shrink-wrapping and/ or stacking.
